Artist Statement
We all have hobbies and ways of dealing with stress, some people collect things, others participate in an activity that they enjoy. The aim of this series is to have the two images printed right next to each other, and when the viewer walks up to the work, they will be curious as to why the same image is printed twice, because the goal is to have the changes subtle enough that they won’t be able to tell. Then when they see a pair of glasses sitting by it and they put it on they will feel as if they just stepped into that world. I wanted to capture a wide variety of hobbies and stress relief techniques that other people have to give the audience the feeling of discovery since they may have not know that some people were interested in certain things. This was shot digitally, and the camera was mounted on a rail which was then mounted on a tripod. Then once the subject was ready one image was shot quickly and then the camera was rolled to the right by three or four inches and then shot again. When you put the images side by side you can see a slight difference, but when using a stereoscope it then becomes a three-dimensional image. The trickiest part of this series is that the model has to be completely still because the slightest movement could result in the image being unsuccessful.
